Late June through early August, with early to mid July its peak, the golden stonefly hatch hits the Bow River at prime conditions - fast water with perfect 3 to 5 foot visibility to bring large trout to the surface. These are the longest days of the year and the Bow River golden stones do their mating in low light conditions during our best weather of the year. That means anglers must hit the water pre-dawn at 4:30 am and float until early afternoon, or start evening floats at 3 or 4 in the afternoon and stay on the water until just after midnight. Far fewer anglers start their day early in the morning, opting to fish in the evening, though our preference is the pre-dawn action. We invite you to join us at this time as the Bow fishes very well. You can expect to cast large dries with dropper nymphs with some streamer fishing. Trout will generally average 19", with a variance between 16 and 25+". Many days fish extremely well and we cast two dries into the seams. Remember, late June through late July is the prime time to fish this hatch! Book your trip to the Bow River now!
