PMD
A rise under the grassy bank gave him away. |
Shallow
Before the heat of the day, this fine male took a small pheasant tail nymph under a caddis in less than a foot of water. |
Sunset
Just above the take out at McKinnon Flats. |
Hopped on it
Hopper season on the Bow. Good fun |
Halloween
Late October, casting to boiling fish in a popular eddy seam. |
Ooops
Going to lift the rod to cast again and something was on the line. 25" brown. Ooops. |
Downhill
On the way down to Janzen's put in to start a frosty day in early November. Good fishing is here so long as we have open water - which is essentially all year on the Bow. |
Late October
And the fish were rising in the seam all day. Cloudy weather olives are always a hit. |
High Banks
Are almost always a sure sign of trout. The troughs, slots, dancing riffles along high banks are always a give away to trout holding nearby. |
Beautiful
A fine rainbow in the evening glow |
Snooty
Another fine male brown looks to be looking down his nose at you, unimpressed you fooled him this time. |
Riffles
Riffles of all shapes, duration, and depths can hold impressive trout. |
Mama
A 25" rainbow gets a bit of a smile. |
Side Channels
Braided sections of the Bow are hot spots. Current seams, troughs, and broken water all hold good trout. |
Tricos
The end of a fine trico mayfly hatch as the sun makes its way over the ridge. Big fish on tiny dries. |
Alone
The Bow is not as busy as most popular USA waters. We'll see several boats - but several during your day. By staggering your day you can feel like the river is yours. |
Subtle
Seams along the shore indicate structure. Subtle structure holds not so subtle trout. |
More Hoppers
This time this rainbow came from 2 feet of water on an open flat beside a field. |
Golden
Golden hilights in the grass, trees, and trout. But the real gold was the golden stone this trout rose to. |
Adios!
A large brown on his way home |
Dewormed
We try to avoid the San Juan Worm. On slow days anything goes. And sometimes it's a little more than effective. |
Ay Captain!
Straight from the Gulf to the Bow. Wayward ho. |
Emerger
This trout was feeding just subsurface. A dropper nymph was tied on and the take came shortly. |
Stones
Early morning rainbow feeing in 8" of water on the golden stones. |
Colourful
A brilliantly colored male rainbow on the hopper. |
Streamer
A fine color rainbow that took a streamer pounded into the bank, stripped 2 feet off shore. |
Charming
A big river with small river components. Broken down, there is a lifetime of water to cover. |
20/20
The 20/20 club. A 20" trout on a #20 olive. A fun moment. |
Hold on
Trying to land that 20/20 trout |
Jumping
The trout was about to clear water, below an old buffalo jump. |
Rubber Lips
What we hope to see on the rise. A big, fat head along the shore - with big rubbery lips. |
Inside out
Or inside in. Work the water well and be rewarded. |
Cloudy day
Before the olives came off, this rainbow tied on. |
Hunters
Looking in at the shallow inside flat. A head pops up. Lay out the cast. Smack! |
Fine Fall
Casting on a warm late September day. |
