Bow River fly fishing Canada

We begin our season floating the Bow River in April. Many years the river below the city of Calgary comes ice free late March through early April and excellent early season fly fishing can occur. Trout are found in the wintering runs and are often stacked one on top of the other. Excellent nymphing and streamer fishing occurs. Little dry fly fishing is available but we do find snouts rising to midges mid afternoon on pleasant days.

The video to the right is an accurate portrayal of the early season fly fishing on the Bow. From early April through to run-off of late May, the Bow produces wonderful float trips and good fly fishing.

As the season unfolds into May, dry fly fishing begins to kick in with the Mother's Day caddis hatch which brings large trout to the surface as caddis are among this river's favorite food source. Of course, the Mother's Day caddis hatch will be featured in a future video!

We invite you to join us from early April to late May as the river changes from an early season unique float to a no holds barred dry fly river.
